Jim Butler, FLY ROD & REEL enjoys the A6 Fly Rod while fishing Isla Mujeres
Review by Jim Butler, editor FLY ROD & REEL Magazine (Summer 2014 issue)

"Aleka is a European brand that’s recently entered the US market. I took a rod in their A6 series along on our travels, matched with the Cheeky Mojo 425 reel. I’ll admit I’m partial to tip-casting cannons for the flats (in fact, I’m a bit of a tip caster when it comes to trout rods, too), and this rod has more of a moderate action. But that just meant some adjustments, particularly given that the wind was, well, healthy on our day of fishing. Fact is, using the rod I plucked a bonefish out of a pod of feeding fish, and also managed a tarpon of 15 or so pounds. I had to slow my stroke a bit and cast more deliberately, but the rod did its job delivering a fly. And when we were sheltered amongst the mangroves, nosing around for baby tarpon, it was capable of putting an entire fly line beyond the tip-top."
