A8 Fly Rod (4 Piece)

Took delivery on 26th February (A8 9’#6 Fly Rod and A3 #5/6 Reel, continuing ongoing feedback from 25thFeb.). My first impression of the fly rod was, “It does look like a work of art”. The fly reel too was well made, even though it was the cheapest buy and had the minimum specification compared to the other fly reels available. This reel suffices for my needs and the quality in the manufacture exceeds what you would have to pay for more expensive reels on the market. The fly rod, I am very pleased to say has everything going for it. It is light and well balanced (with reel and line attached) professionally made with excellent cosmetics. I tried casting with the rod in the garden, nice action and comfortable to cast with a bit of wool attached to the tippet. In fact I felt really good casting with this rod although for the real test it will have to wait until I get the first opportunity to visit the water. I must thank John for his help and professional advice, also for the free gift of some dry flies that was sent with my order. On examining the flies they look first class, professionally tied using what looks to me as some of the best fly tying materials available. Will be in touch soon.

Until recently, due to a back problem I have been unable to spend any quality time fly fishing. Previous to this, I had spent most of my fly fishing years using stiff heavier rods (10’) and lines (#7/8) to gain as much distance in casting as possible. Now after having surgery on my back it has given me a new lease of life to go fishing again. Well that is what I thought! Unfortunately, I found I could not carry on as before and needed adopt a new strategy instead of using my old tackle. A friend of mine suggested I should ask an expert for professional advice. Then reading a fishing magazine (Trout Fisherman) I saw the name “Aleka” I thought this looks interesting, after reading the article I decided I would contact customer services (John) and explain my problem. Well after my chat with John he has given me the inspiration or should I say the motivation to try again, by suggesting the option of using a lighter rod and line. He also said if I purchased a rod and it didn’t meet my needs (If I wasn’t happy with the action) I could exchange it. You can’t be fairer than that can you. I have ordered a A8 (9‘) rod and A3 reel to take #5/6 line. I look forward to receiving and trying this work of art.

Bought 10' 5# A8 online it arrived within 36 hours. I have used it three times and I am really pleased with action I am not the best caster in the world but the rod seems to sort it all out for you. Will be buying more Aleka rods in the near future. Great service and great rods.
