Ordered a 10ft 5wt travel rod. Received the package directly form the UK faster than I normally get stuff in the US. Tried it out on the lawn and was very pleased. Will give it the acid test this Spring on the water in Colorado.
I purchased a 9 foot 6 weight for nymphing and the rod performed very well. It has enuff back bone to chuck meat if needed. For the price you can beat this rod. I am very interested in purchasing an A4 as well. My only complaint about this rod would be the finish. When the sun hits it a glare occurs.
Today used the 10' 5wt Aleka A8 for the first time float tubing at Caistron lake near Rothbury, Northumberland. The rod is remarkably light, a wand, handling floating & midge tip lines with ease. The extra length enabled me to hang the flies towards the end of the retrieve enticing several takes. Lots of fish, played quickly and returned. Excellent value for money Aleka.
Lovely looking rod, had to wait nearly a week to try it. When I eventually did get on the water - what a piece of equipment, throws a #5 weight line much better than any I have used before - and a bonus of a two and a half pound rainbow on the second cast, three more later in the morning. Must try a #7 weight this winter.
At first I ordered the A3 but after I received it changed my mind and wanted a upgrade to the A8 John Openshaw could not of been more helpful I returned the A3 on a Monday and received the replacement A8 on the Wednesday.I have not had a chance to use the A8 yet but if the rod is as good as the service I received then I will be very pleased. Well done ALEKA. J Davidson (Berwick upon tweed)
